Why is my internet so slow?

Okay so I ordered a new laptop last week and it arrived this morning and I've set everything up correctly but the internet is really slow and I have a really strong wireless connection as the hub is in my bedroom. I'm also using google chrome which is a really fast browser as I used it on my old laptop but it seems to be really slow especially when loading youtube videos or tv shows that I want to watch online. Any idea as to how I could improve this?
