God of War - Challenge of Poseidon?

Yeah I know...old game. After about 20 solid minutes of kickin' demon doggy *** and eliminating all the cerberus dogs, the trail to the left fails to open up. I can run around the circle arena all I want and no more enemies appear. According to the manual the trail should open up once the last enemy is dead. Any ideas?
